It’s something no dog lover ever wants to see: a sweet little dog left all alone outside. But that’s what happened to Ladybird, a puppy who was found tied up to a tree, just waiting for someone to notice her.
Dogs like Ladybird, they just overflow with love for us. So, it’s super hard to understand how someone could be mean to them, to leave them like that. It just doesn’t make sense.
Ladybird sat next to that tree, day in and day out, her puppy eyes watching every car that passed by on the Kentucky road. She must have been feeling pretty scared, but inside her tiny chest beat the heart of a lioness, full of hope.
Then, finally, a driver spotted her. He saw the little dog, all on her own, looking cold and shivering a little. The sight tugged at his heart, and he knew he had to do something. So he called the Lewis County Animal Shelter because he wanted Ladybird to be warm, happy, and loved.
The rescue team came quick as lightning. They scooped up Ladybird and took her back to the shelter. There, they made sure she felt safe and warm. “She sat there so stoically by the tree waiting for someone to notice her. I’m so grateful the shelter found her and took her in. She was found not far from the shelter,” says Kim Desroches from Friends of Lewis County Animals.

Even though Ladybird was safe at the shelter, she still seemed a bit scared. It wasn’t the best place for a tiny pup like her. She needed more cuddles and kisses than a big, busy shelter could give.
When Kim Desroches saw Ladybird’s sad little face on the shelter’s Facebook, she felt a wave of sadness. Ladybird was so young, just six or seven weeks old. Kim knew she had to help her, so she found Ladybird a foster home — a place where she could start wagging her tail and playing again.

Ladybird’s foster mom was the best. She gave Ladybird all the love she’d been missing, and pretty soon, Ladybird was back to her playful, happy self.
Then came the next big step. Ladybird was moved to the Licking County Humane Society, a place where she had a chance at finding her forever family. On January 27, 2024, they shared on Facebook that Ladybird was ready for adoption.

Now, everyone’s crossing their fingers for Ladybird. We’re all hoping she’ll find a family that will wrap her up in love and never, ever let her go.
